Kids are definitely a priority in my life. I was a stay at home Mom for the first 11 years, until my youngest was 2, then I was a student 2-3 days a week for another 5, then another year at home for health reasons, before I began working full-time as a Nurse, the past 10 years as a single Mom, and now a Foster Mom and Grandma. I've even taken adoption classes as I feel that's what God is leading me to do, to provide a loving home for a child or children who wouldn't otherwise have one. I do consider myself pretty conservative in politics and religion, and agree that a 2-parent home is best, however, that is NOT a realistic option for many kids and I believe it's an excuse used by some to help them feel better about their inaction. Yes, it's hard to love a child and "give him back", hard to take last minute calls, to meet kids at the ER, to listen to them cry for their Mom or Dad and not be able to give them what they want. I made a choice to concentrate on infants and toddlers and let me assure you, they know who is their Mom, and who is not... and that's why I tell them to call me Grandma Colleen. Funny thing is, they usually call my daughter Libby Mom anyway. Seems kids need one....
